Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom Teeth Removal Berwyn Dental Connection

About 10 million wisdom teeth are removed each year from 5 million people. Oral surgery to remove wisdom teeth is a standard procedure that is practiced every day. After visiting our Berwyn dentist, Dr. Lares may recommend to get your wisdom teeth removed. However, you may wonder why you need them removed even though they don’t cause pain.

Just because your wisdom teeth are not a source of pain doesn’t mean that there is nothing wrong. Most of the time, wisdom teeth need to be removed because they don’t have room to grow properly and may cause problems. Other reasons include:

  • Damage to other teeth: Impacted wisdom teeth can shift other teeth as they continue to grow. This can undo the effects of braces, crowns, bridges and partial dentures. It can also cause mouth pain and bite problems.
  • Sinus issues: Problems with wisdom teeth can lead to sinus pain, pressure and congestion.
  • Jaw damage: Impacted wisdom teeth may develop cysts or tumors. If they aren’t treated, they can hollow out your jaw and cause damage to nerves.
  • Inflamed gums: Because there is limited space for wisdom teeth to erupt, infection and inflammation may be common. Gum disease and inflammation can lead to receding gum tissues, deterioration of the jawbone and tooth loss.
  • Cavities: Your wisdom teeth are more susceptible to cavities since it is more difficult to clean them. Bacteria can grow, which causes cavities to form.

Before deciding on getting your wisdom teeth removed, our dentist will look at the shape of your mouth and the position of your teeth. In addition, Dr. Lares will take x-rays to determine the growth pattern of your wisdom teeth.

There is no age limit to getting your wisdom teeth removed but as you get older, surgery and recovery can be more difficult. In most instances, you can wait several months to see if anything changes in your wisdom teeth before making a final decision. However, if you experience pain or swelling near the back of your teeth, contact our dentist in Berwyn for a consultation.

Dental work can be a bit intimidating. However, at Berwyn Dental Connection the entire process is professional and calming. The atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff are very personable from the front desk to the dental hygienist and even the doctors! I received a root canal performed by Dr. Lares and she and her assistant made me feel comfortable. Overall, the entire staff are professional and skilled, I'd definitely recommend.

I have been a patient at Berwyn Dental Connection for about a year- but what a year it was! The team in this office is so fantastic! They are kind, professional, warm, intelligent, and care for their patients. Dr. Peralta-Sugano has gotten me through infections, an extraction, a dental implant, and an after-hours emergency appointment because I was in so much pain over the holidays. Veronica and Bianca are so kind, responsive, and friendly. I'm thankful to have established care at such an exceptional dental office.

So happy I chose The Dental Connection and Dr. Lares. I’ve been going there for over three years and am very happy with the level of care and attention I get from Dr. Lares and her crew. All of the staff is so accommodating and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at ease, especially Veronica, one of the receptionists, who is the first person to greet you!

I came for my first visit yesterday my experience was great from the check in to my visit with the dental assistant to the dentist. The friendly atmosphere and customer service is something that is hardly seen. The dental assistant explained what she was going to do before doing it and as much, as I hate full mouth xrays she took her time and made sure that I was as comfortable as possible during the xray. The dentist explained what she was examining and what it meant. While doing my cleaning they made sure I was comfortable through out the whole procedure and as soon as I felt discomfort went to hand scaling. Overall great experience is not so often that dentist do a hand scaling usually now a days dentist prefer to work on your mouth using nothing but the motorized equipment as fast as they can and a dental cleaning can become painful that way...if your looking for the whole package come here you will not regret it.
